Slime Mansion Logo

This semester I'm taking a Digital Illustration class where, for the first time ever, I'm learning Adobe Illustrator! O_O Vector stuff had always intimidated me because I never really gave it a shot before (and I didn't have Illustrator or any other vector-producing programs), so a lot of things I've done in the past that could've been better if it were in vectors were instead done by hand and Photoshop.

That being said, one of the first things I did when I learned the basics of Illustrator was a vectorized version of the Slime Mansion logo. 8D

Slime Mansion

Go ahead. Keep zooming in. 8) And just for reference, here's the old raster version of the logo:

Slime Mansion

...It's not such a HUUGE difference really, but at the time I felt really proud of myself? :D() I've since gotten a better grip of Illustrator, and while I'm not QUITE dying to vectorize everything in my life just yet, I AM pretty excited by the possibility of blowing images up to dimensions of several feet and relishing the razor-smooth edges of my lovely lovely vectors. :B We've had two projects so far using Illustrator with a third due in a couple of weeks, so I'll post those up in the near future!

Rupert's Adventures in the Outside World

December saw the end of my class in Elements of Sequential Art with Christian Hill, and all in all I think I learned a lot! :B If anything it's gotten me to think more critically about more aspects of my comic, as well as looking at the comic as a whole to see the bigger picture. It was a hectic semester though because we spent the bulk of the semester with the Herakles project, leaving just a few weeks for our final project. Shamefully, I had to turn my project a few weeks after the semester was over, but I had fun doing it nonetheless?

Anyway, once again the comic is about my cat Rupert, this time setting off into the outside world on an adventure! More than anything I wanted to play around with actually using color in comics and seeing how that's like. It definitely adds a different dimension to the work process compared to working in black and white, and I'd definitely like to do more! :B ONTO THE COMIC!

Rupert's Adventure

H-he actually didn't used to do this kind of stuff, but lately he takes every opportunity he can to slip by us into the backyard to play. XO He hasn't figured out how to jump the walls yet, but aahhhh I'll die if he ever does. @__@

Oh, and there's a new Comics box on the front page now which contains some of my old short comic work, including "The Little Match Girl" which was published in TokyoPop's first Rising Stars of Manga anthology, and "Raven" which was published in an independent anthology of comics about robots! Check them out if you'd like, even though I'm severely embarrassed by them now. >_>

Landmaster!!!

Landmaster!!!

This was a picture done back in July 2008 which I finally got around to putting up on the site. :B It's the Star Fox gang as seen in Smash Bros. Brawl. I was always a fan of playing as Falco in Melee (even though I'm kind of terrible at it), but I'm finding that I like playing Wolf a lot better this time around??

In hindsight there's maybe a little too much purple going on in this picture. owell :X

Herakleeees

In my comics class we're doing a class project, a sort of anthology where we each draw a part of a complete graphic novel of an alternate retelling of the Greek myth of Hercules (or more accurately Greek, Herakles?). We're basing the story directly off the original legend where Herakles killed his own family and set off on the twelve labors and stuff, so it's definitely not Disney, and it's definitely definitely not Kevin Sorbo. But since the original legend made Herakles out to seem kind of like a stupid jock, we're also trying to inject some relatability in him by exploring his psyche?

Anyway, for the past several weeks we'd been going back and forth regarding the character designs, and eventually it ended up being me and two other people working on combining everybody's suggestions into a single design. Another guy in the group did the final bodies, but I got to take charge of the heads and the costume drawings, which is all I ever really cared about because by Jove, I want Herakles to be a hot bara superstar >8(!!

So an update on school, the previously mentioned financial aid fiasco has been sorta resolved, except I did end up getting a lot less grants this semester because of how late everything got processed, so meh :[ But anyway!!

This semester I'm taking a Sequential Art class! *_* There've only been three sessions so far, but it's very interesting and exciting, and the professor is amazing as well! He explains things very clearly, and his lectures are like a narrative in that you sort of get this feel that there are plot devices like foreshadowing and thematic overtones going on, and stuff that he hints at in the very first lecture eventually comes full circle in a later lecture. I'm looking forward to getting better at comics through this class!

Anyway, our first homework assignment was to do a two-page comic about an autobiographical incident, so um, I've included that in this entry for those of you who are interested. :D

Radiance

Radiance

Confession: one of my secret favorite pastimes is going through Japanese fan art sites looking at pictures of these two. :[ (It's Ike and Ranulf from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance!) Oh my gooooodddd I love Fire Emblem everybody should play iiiiit. I've been replaying The Binding Blade (the one with Roy in it) recently aaahh it makes me so happy, even though I really shouldn't be using my free time on it. 8D()

Tea and Cigarette Break

Cigarette and Tea Time

I feel like that's what I need right now; a cigarette. (But I don't smoke so I'll take the tea instead!)

Trials and Tribulations

Trials and Tribulations

Phoenix Wright fan art! I had actually finished this for Fanime back in May, and I had uploaded it onto my DeviantArt a while back too, but I'm putting it up here now!! There are a few pieces on this site that I haven't put up on DeviantArt, anyway. But um, once both places get "caught up," I'll start uploading things simultaneously onto both. Why not just upload everything I have in one go?? B-because that's boring!! >__> Anyway, it's also available to purchase as a print from the Mansion Boutique for those who are interested. :D

Princess Peach

Princess Peach

I was suggested by a friend to do a counter illustration featuring Daisy eating a daisy. Maybe I'll do it one day. >_>

REVIVAL!

Rupert :3

Well, admittedly I hadn't even done anything to this thing since the launch of the last layout, but that's because I had spent so long making it that by the time it was done I was already sick of it and didn't want to look at it anymore! >8\ That and also I realized that it looked kind of sad and pathetic on monitors larger than mine, which I'm coming to realize is representing a greater and greater amount of the population.

Title page for Section 2.1 is finally done @w@

Ahh this is a bit late. :< I really did work hard on it though, and I'm still trying to update on time next week!! In any case, I finished coloring the title page for Section 2.1, and you get to take a look at it right here~

ART DUMP LIKE WHOA

Nyanko!
Teehee, I like Ranulf.

So I'm almost done with a sketchbook and should probably be getting a new one in the near near future (there are like 3 pages left XO), so I figured I may as well take this time to scan all the sketches that are in there, as well as in the sketchbook BEFORE this one x_X. It would've been so much easier if I scanned them as I did them rather than leaving them all for now, but whenever I draw something in there I always think that I'll eventually refine and finish them. 9_9 Oh well, that never works out. Also, the sketchbook is a tad too big for my scanner so I have to actually go and edit the picture a little after I scan it because a good chunk of the side sections end up a little darker. =_= Next time I'll get a smaller sketchbook >_>. Whatever, enough rambling!
